This semniar have been designed and presented by America’s Boating Club of the San Juan Islands (ABCSJI). Our club’s award-winning instructor, Ann Einboden, along with other ABCSJI club’s cruising experts, have been cruising these waters for many years and share with you the essentials and practical tips with emphasis on safety and fun for cruising this amazing area!

The Anchoring seminar has been prepared to assist boaters in understanding the issues and problems involving the theories of anchor weight, the methods used to anchor, and the choices of anchor types for the area of boating. The slides and notations on anchoring are intended to raise awareness of the need for correct anchor choices and the mechanics of proper anchoring techniques. The knowledge gained from completing this seminar will increase the student’s understanding of the conditions and situations involved in anchoring a boat and the need for a proper anchor choice.

With the Automated Identification System (AIS) for marine vessels, you can avoid collisions in crowded waters by knowing the name, locations, speed and course of other boats and ships, how close they will come, and when to act. Many AIS systems also broadcast your boat’s information to other boats so they can also make better, safer boating decisions.
Our Introduction to AIS seminar can help you decide if an AIS is right for you and show you how AIS and Radar differ. AIS electronics are not just for commercial vessels and more recreational vessels are employing this technology for safer cruising.
